Flax seeds are a health food bargain
Health foods can be expensive so if you are looking for a quality low-cost addition to your healthy diet I urge you to consider the seed of flax also known and linseed.
Flax seed is an amazing nutritional value, here are some of the reasons:
- Flax contains alpha-linolenic acid which is a plant-based essential omega-3 fatty acid believed to boost insulin sensitivity inside muscle cells. The cells use these fatty acids to build their cells walls with.
- Flax contains more of the plant chemical lignan than any other vegetable. Lignans are a type of antioxidant and are believed to help transport estrogen out of the body.
- Flax has both soluble and insoluble fiber.
- Flax contains a variety of vitamins and minerals essential for good health including, iron, vitamin E, the "b" vitamins, magnesium, calcium, sulfur, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, , copper, molybdenum, silicon, chromium, and cobalt, and zinc among others.
But flax may have an even greater roll in good health then what most nutritionists know.
"Dr. Joanna Budwig from Germany, who has degrees in medicine, physics, pharmacology and biochemistry is one of the first researchers to combine an in-depth knowledge of the quantum mechanics and physics with an in-depth knowledge of human biochemistry and physiology. From this lofty scientific position, she has concluded that not only do electron-rich foods act as high-power electron donors, but they also act as solar-resonant fields in the body to attract, store and conduct the sun's energy in our bodies. She theorizes that the photons of the sunlight, which she calls "sun electrons," are attracted by sun-like electrons resonating in our own biological systems, especially in the double-bonded electron cloud found in our lipid systems and in the omega-3 fatty acids such as we get in flax seed. These sunlight electrons, called "pi-electrons," have the ability within our molecular structure to attract and activate the sun photons. Dr. Budwig believes that the energy we absorb from these solar photons acts as an anti-entropy, or anti-aging, factor.
As a result of her theory, she believes that live foods, and particularly flax seeds, which contain three highly active electron clouds in the double bonds, helps bring a tremendous amount of pi-electrons into the system." - Page 295 - Spiritual Nutrition, Gabriel Cousens M.D.
If you are a bodybuilder or any type of athlete flax seeds are a wonderful addition to your diet for the reasons stated above.
- Some of the health benefits of taking flax MAY include:
- Protection against coronary heart disease
- Protection against cancer
- protection against diabetes
- Improvement of skin disorders
- Improvement of arthritis symptoms
- Lowering of cholesterol
- Many other potential benefits
The popular ways to consume flax is:
- Whole seeds
- Oil
- Ground seeds
The most nutritional benefit is derived by grinding the seeds however whole seeds tend to go right through your digestive system not offering much in the way of nutritional benefit.
I like to buy flax in bulk which is currently about $1.99 a pound in the area I live.
Buy yourself a $20 coffee grinder and grind the seeds and then put the powder into your protein shakes throughout the day or cook with it by adding it to breads, muffins or even sprinkling onto your salad. There are countless ways you could incorporate ground flax into your recipes.
Occasionally people will tell me they've seen reports that flax can increase the risk of prostate cancer in men. Nothing can be further from the truth. Those reports are referring to processed destabilized Linolenic Acid found in foods like red meat and bacon, not the LA which is found in flax.
If you know of one single study that suggests flax seed is unhealthy, please forward it to me so I can read it.
Flax is a powerful food and supplies precious plant based omega-3 fatty acids that people eating a western diet usually lack. However, like anything else to much of a good thing can be bad. If you over consume flax it could throw your omega-3 / omega-6 balance off in the other direction.
For more information just do a search for flax and it won't be hard to discover that one of the most basic of all foods is also one of the best nutritional bargains going today!

DUDE, go get yourself a friggin Vita-mix. What kind of health guru uses these crap appliances?!?!
It’s funny I still use that same blender almost four years later. The bearings are starting to go out, it makes a horrible noise.
I enjoyed reading it. I require to read more on this matter…I am admiring the time and effort you put in your blog, because it is obviously one great place where I can find lot of usable info..
Thanks Juliet!
Hi Michael,
I have been to your website a few days ago. I just actually found it on you tube. Im overweight and just now been trying to take the sugar out of my diet. Your video on flax seed is great!
Putting it in protein shakes is a good idea. I'm out to get my coffee grinder. Without you guys on the internet, I'd probably be dead today. Ive read so much on the internet and now it's time to put it to work before it's to late. Thank You Michael. I'm going to bookmark your website.

Hi Michael,
Great video.. I was wondering if there are any specific daily recommended quantities for us to consume flaxseed? i.e. how much should we consume daily? should it be certain amount given our body weight? etc.. Please let me know and thanks for the efforts!
